Why We Exist
Benedict Anderson said that a nation is an imagined
community. And that in this imagined community, we
will never be able to meet all of its inhabitants,
but we will always be conscious of their existence.
This is why YTRIP exists. We want to make
the Filipino imagined community a bit more real.
We want to have more faces, more stories, more shapes
in our imaginings. We want to meet as many Filipinos
as we can and listen to them as they share their stories
so they will not be forgotten. We want every Filipino
to be more than conscious of the existence of the
other. We want more Filipinos to know the mysteries
underneath the places, the stories woven into history,
the dreams beneath the smiles. We want Filipinos to
converse. We want them to ask more questions and understand
each other better, value each place more.

A nation is an imagined community. It rests well
in our imaginations, in our memories. And because
it is so, now is the time for us to re-imagine
the nation we want to be. Now is the time
to create new memories of a Filipino nation that lives
in dignity and progress. We hope to be the generation
that is rarely confused and lost in their identity,
rarely constrained to dream and to create the opportunities
to attain them.

Pilipinas sa inyong imahinasyon, sa inyong isipan
upang lumawak lalo ang inyong mundo ng pagtulong.
