YTRiP Martial Law Museum Walk
and Pagkilatan, Batangas City
November 10, 2007. A month before the Human Rights
Day, YTRiP visited the Martial Law Museum in Quezon
City. Launched this year by the Bantayog Foundation,
the museum is a real learning space on Filipino
modern history.
It honors those who have fought for freedom during
the Martial Law era, and remembers those who have
fallen, disappeared, and those who have survived.
A realistic depiction of what life was like back
then, the museum is a reminder of why we must value
our democracy and why we must all continue to protect
it.
Volunteers of YTRiP and RockEd Philippines
would like to thank Ms. Bernie and
Ms. Susan, two of the eleven women
volunteers of the Bantayog Foundation for
warmly accommodating us. They shared their stories
and experiences during that era in our past, making
history feel more real to us.

YTRiP: DS Way - Philippine Marine Biodiversity,
December 8, 2007
A collaborative project with the Development
Society (Ateneo) and in coordination with
the UP Marine Biodiversity Society,
YTRiP took 25 students from Ateneo de Manila University
to the beach for one whole day. The objective: make
the beach an alternative class space on Philippine
marine biodiversity.
The elements: an unknown beach, a simple resort,
an accommodating Barangay council, familiar Pinoy
hospitality, passionate org people, Batangas Lomi
and Pagkilatan Bibingka, and a group of curious
students - and you have a Coastal Clean-up
and Snorkeling 101 session plus a taste of local
culture.
YTRiP would like to thank the Development
Society (Ateneo), Teddie
Rose Mateo (YTRiP and UP MBS), Steph,
CJ and Armand of UP MBS,
Tatay Apolonio and Nanay Letty,
the Pagkilatan Barangay Council,
Ron and Tox, and Leo Villafranca.
Thank you to all the students who joined us in our
trip - teams Dugong, Balyena, Pawikan, and
Butanding.
Usually with YTRiP, we begin as strangers and end
the day as friends. Our walks the past months not
only produced new friendships, but also new thinking.
We look forward to more trips like these, and to
more friends and interests.
